About alta

The idea that you think you can be what you see in other people is not unique.

Mentoring has long been acknowledged as a positive tool in helping to build a career or improve life experiences.

However, projects that exist across industries with a not for profit ethos are rare.

Collaboration and cooperation between business – particularly in the corporate world, has long been a key strategy for growth, with large companies coming together to share resources and increase profits, often on a global scale resulting in success for both companies offering an opportunity to cut out the rest of the competition.

alta was created from a passion and desire to help all women in the aerospace and aviation industry to succeed.  A simple plan, ask already successful women to reach out and support less experienced women towards their own version of success.  Later on in their career, those women who have been helped will be encouraged and mentored to be mentors themselves, completing a circle of positive benefit for both the individual women and the companies they work for.

The founding group, an eclectic group of organisations within the education, industry body, aviation and aerospace sector, RAeS, UWE, Airbus, RAF & Little Blue Private Jets did not seem at first a likely group to create a ground breaking organisation, but take a closer look.  The breadth of the industry was represented with an added element of academic expertise which enabled the group to carry out research and better understand the challenges and obstacles faced by women in a male dominated industry.  At the same time the academic study was able to establish ‘What Women Want’ and then create a platform to deliver it.

There has never been a collaboration in the aviation industry which offered so much to all companies, large and small and the women within them.  alta created a community of women who can discuss, support, learn and benefit from a unique network which has no boundary’s apart from the single focus on one industry.  The extraordinary network of individual women come from right across industry with no geographic restrictions, no cultural bias and no language barriers.

alta offers benefits to corporations who choose to embrace the concept, better supported women with the confidence and network to grow and develop in their careers, at the same time it’s a tool for corporates to become an employer of choice for women looking for the right company to build their career in.

It is proven that companies with a diverse employee base are more successful in every way, communication is better, the range of ideas is wider and profits increase.  Many companies struggle to manage the often fractured careers of their female employees, uncertain about how to offer better support and a flexible environment to retain them.  alta is able to offer support and advice to both the women and the companies facing these challenges.  Companies are made up of people, with a cross industry platform which is able to facilitate the sharing of best practice, retention of female employees is able to strengthen and improve across the sector.

Within this collaborative network there are many opportunities for further collaboration within the industry, as the women using the platform becomes more connected and increasingly aware of their colleagues in other aviation organisations, the sharing of ideas will increase, talent will be able to move around within the industry taking skills and knowledge with them to enhance the corporate machine.

At the heart of the collaboration which is alta is a simple desire to create a positive working environment that is no longer male dominated but balanced and educated, alta, this prize winning platform, has created an opportunity to change the culture of the industry and improve the lives of the women within it.
